I just found out about the Virtual Great American Bake Sale being held by Cooking During Stolen Moments. Participants share a favorite recipe, which goes into an ebook, which will be offered for sale, and all the proceeds will go to Share Our Strength. Share Our Strength provides food for American children who would otherwise go hungry.
Unfortunately, the last day to contribute a recipe is today, April 5 (which I did just a moment ago), but the cookbook will be for sale on the 13th of this month. It’s a great cause, and it looks like there are going to be some really good recipes!
If you are reading this right now, consider yourself blessed! You have the resources to think about something other than where your next meal will come from and to have the luxury of a computer. Let’s spread that blessing around as an expression of our thankfulness! It says in the Torah to allow the poor to gather up what food has fallen on the ground in the field. Today, most people in the US don’t have fields, so we need to find other ways to give others our excess without compromising their dignity. This is a great way to do it!
